SIGNS OF MANIA
Excessive "high" or euphoric feelings
Sustained period of unusual behavior
Increased energy, activity, restlessness, racing thoughts, and rapid talking
Decreased need for sleep
Unrealistic beliefs in ones's abilities and powers
Extreme irritability and distractibility
Uncharacteristically poor judgment
Increased sexual drive
Abuse of drugs, especially cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping pills
Obnoxious, provocative or intrusive behavior
Denial that anything is wrong
SIGNS OF DEPRESSION
Feelings of sadness or irritability
Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities including sex
Chronic pain or other bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical disease
Losing or gaining weight
Sleep disturbances (sleeping too much, too little or disrupted sleep)
Observable slowed or agitated physical and/or spoken responses
Lack of energy or feeling tired all the time
Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
Problems concentrating or making decisions
Suicidal thoughts
