Professional Biography

Dr. Barnes is a licensed psychologist who joined the practice in December 2008.  She earned her B.S. in Psychology 
from Texas A&M University, as well as her M.S. in Educational Psychology and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.  
She completed her internship at the University of Tennessee Counseling Center.
  
Dr. Barnes specializes in individual, couples, and group therapy, and the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, 
anxiety disorders, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, sexual orientation issues, grief, life transitions, and 
eating disorders and body image concerns.  Dr. Barnes has special interest and experience in the research and 
treatment of intimate partner violence, including male and female victims and perpetrators.
  
Dr. Barnes also has experience in psychological and career assessment with college-aged and adult populations.  
Her approach to psychotherapy is a blend of interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral theories, and places special 
emphasis on the strength and quality of the relationship between the therapist and client.
